Commisioner Moscovici (Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs) had an exchange of views with the Members of TAX3 on issues related to taxation. The Recommendation following the inquiry on money laundering, tax avoidance and tax evasion, published, last December was presented during the meeting as well.
The views exchanged notably concern the VAT package proposals, the recent proposals on digital taxation and the Commission's observations on aggressive tax planning in the context of the European Semester. The follow-up given by the Commission to the PANA Committee recommendations was also discussed.
The Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance (TAX3) was established on 1 March. It will have twelve months to present its report. Petr Ježek (ALDE) is elected as the new Chair of the TAX3 Special Committee by acclamation on March 22, 2018. During its constituent meeting, the Special Committee has also elected its Vice-Chairs: Roberts Zīle (ECR), Eva Joly (Greens/EFA), Esther De Lange (EPP) and Ana Gomes (S&D). The next meetings of the Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance will take place on April 16, 2018.
